How a small business owner went from “You will never see me on Pinterest” to “My content finally had a home that I didn’t even know it needed.” after working with me for their Pinterest Marketing Strategy.
“I blame you for all of this.” Thanks Bonnie!
Let’s start this story from the beginning. My client, turned friend, Bonnie from Bin Your Space, Home Organizer extraordinaire refused to get started with a Pinterest marketing strategy for her business. Now, Pinterest is her favorite platform to market her business.
So what changed?
Bonnie is not alone. Many of you have expressed similar feelings about Pinterest marketing.
Bonnie point blank refused. Take her words for it:
“Why would I put my content on Pinterest? I was looking at it as a user and not as a business. I didn’t want to do Pinterest. I literally said “THIS IS DUMB”.
I felt it was a lot of work and what is going to come of that? I can’t interact with people. I didn’t understand the big picture. I didn’t want to contribute to the “pinterest perfect home” rhetoric.
Everything is perfect, that was not the way I was providing for my clients. Pinterest is not the standard, it is unrealistic. I am realistic and attainable, doable. Easy on the wallet, actionable and doable.”
Those thoughts and feelings are one of the many reasons so many love working with Bonnie. She is honest, she is relatable, and she really cares about the clients she serves. She, like many others, did not want to contribute to the ‘Pinterest perfect home’ rhetoric. Can you relate?
It is true that Pinterest contains a lot of inspiration, dreamy interior homes, dreamy weddings, dreamy pools….(I will continue to dream of one day having a Pinterest perfect pool). People open up to scroll Pinterest in an entirely different way than scrolling through any other platform.
This is the beauty of using Pinterest to market your business.
Why Pinterest Marketing Matters
Social media is having a very detrimental effect on our mental health.
8 in 10 people come to Pinterest to feel positive, only 3 in 10 say that of other social media sites.
So how do we use Pinterest marketing to make money for your business and also contribute to such a positive platform?
One thing I often repeat to my clients….your audience needs you. They need what you’re offering and they need your services.
Pinterest needed someone like Bonnie. The Home Edit is incredible, we all know the look, the style, but is that realistic for most? Is that helping us feel better about our homes and our spaces or worse? I love The Home Edit, I binged every episode on Netflix and purchased every book. But I needed someone to show me how to make it work in my home, in my space.
Enter Bonnie. Bin Your Space is exactly the kind of home organizer we all need on hand. She makes organizing fun, attainable and sustainable….much like my goals as your Pinterest manager.
Bonnie and I first connected through Social Squad Society, Shannon and Emily have created an incredible community of like minded business owners.
I had the privilege of teaching a masterclass on Pinterest in November 2023 for Social Squad Society, thank you Emily! From there Bonnie learned not just how to add keywords to Pinterest pins and create cute pin designs but also that it is essential to have your own website to make the most of your Pinterest marketing efforts. She set a plan in motion to get her website up and running and used Kristy Zumwalt, also a fellow Social Squad member.
“I was looking at it as a user and not as a business. Once I figured out I could make money on Pinterest, it was game on.”
She also was growing tired on Instagram.
She was finding it harder and harder to do content for Instagram.
She felt Instagram was totally random whereas Pinterest felt very specific and purposeful.
Bonnie binged that masterclass within Social Squad and then attended The Pinterest Masterclass in February 2024.
She then took Pinterest by storm! Taking everything she learned, plus a few DM’s for extra advice, she went all out.
She went from not knowing how to post on Pinterest to knowing exactly how to make money on Pinterest.
One of her favorite parts of Pinterest are Pinterest boards that help people organize themselves. She was able to use these Pinterest boards to categorize her content, or “give it at home” as she described it.
She appreciated having my guidance and being able to ask direct questions. She wanted to be a resource for those organizing their homes.
She now is able to share before and afters of client transformations, tag the associated bins and containers and make passive income from her affiliate links! She shares wonderful organization hacks from home office organization to kitchen organization and everything in between.
As with most of my Pinterest management clients, Bonnie was surprised to learn which things are converting the most with her audience on Pinterest, compared to Instagram.
“The things they click on the most are surprising. Classroom organization has been really popular. I also use Pinterest to promote my DIY Guide and within the first 30 days it had 903 impressions, 37 clicks, 1 save, 11 outbound clicks and 4 profile views.”
Yes, you read that right. Within the FIRST 30 days.
The Best Part of Pinterest Marketing
Now remember, Pins can live on forever. If you have any product to sell, digital downloads, freebies etc, you need to be on Pinterest!
One of my favorite moments from working with Bonnie was when she said “I’m not here to make money, I’m here to make people less stressed. Calm and relaxed. This is your space. Take off that stress. I want that to come through in my content.”
If you don’t already know and love Bonnie, please be sure to follow her on Instagram and show her some love. If you need a space in your home organized, Bonnie is your girl! She also offers virtual organizing for those who aren’t local to Maryland.
From “You will never see me on Pinterest” to “My content finally had a home that I didn’t even know it needed. I blame you for all of this.” Bonnie, I will happily take the blame for this any day!
If you, like Bonnie, are ready to learn how to use Pinterest to market your business, I am here to help. As your Pinterest Manager, we can curate a Pinterest Strategy designed just for your business or full monthly Pinterest management. The choice is yours!
I will leave you with these closing words from Bonnie. “I would not love Pinterest if it weren’t for you. I wouldn’t understand it and enjoy it as much. I have more ideas than I know what to do with. I am on Instagram less. My content finally had a home that I didn’t even know it needed.”
